This short article may be considered the missing manual, as when I tried to get some decent instructions on that, the support personnel at their paid-per-minute call center instructed me to visit a physical store, wait in line and have someone to help.
I have to preface these steps because I am referring to a Business plan with an active eSIM here, so your mileage may vary.
I recently switched to a white iPhone 14 Pro Max, as one does, and after the transfer process that took care of everything iOS related, I was left with a non-transferable active eSIM on my old iPhone. After talking to a call center support personnel, I was just about to go to a Vodafone Romania physical store. Still, I decided to delete the eSIM profile from my old iPhone.
To delete the eSIM from your iPhone (running iOS version 16.3.1), please go to:
- Settings / Mobile Data / Delete eSIM (under the eSIM provider panel - here "VODAFONE RO")
Here comes the tricky part. Hopefully, you have kept the eSIM activation QR code and code. The QR code was provided to you by Vodafone (in this case, it was provided by our company's account representative) in a PDF file. The activation code came via SMS from Vodafone.
On your iPhone (running iOS version 16.3.1), please go to:
- Settings / Mobile Data / Add eSIM
- Scan the QR code mentioned above
- Enter the same confirmation code associated with that specific QR code when requested.
- Please wait a few seconds (actually, it was something like 30 seconds)
- You're good to go! Just soft reset your iOS once, and you're golden!
If you have a residential/personal plan with Vodafone, as soon as you delete the eSIM from one iPhone, you'll be sent a new QR code to your email address on the record and the activation code via SMS. Still, this is the first time I have had this experience since this is a company-issued phone number.
That all. Happy calling, and please back up the eSIM QR code and activation code somewhere secure.
Cheers,
